Account & data deletion

How to delete a Gulino Parent account and the data that goes with it — and exactly what deletion does and does not do.

The in-app route below is the direct way. The email route is available at any time.

Deleting your Gulino account does not cancel your Google Play subscription. If you subscribed and no longer want the subscription, cancel it in Google Play first — see how.

How to delete your account

In the app:

  1. Open Gulino.
  2. Enter Parent Mode.
  3. Open Account & Security.
  4. Choose Delete account.
  5. Confirm your identity: enter your current Parent account password.
  6. Confirm permanent deletion.

Before asking you to confirm, the app shows what will be deleted from our servers, what will be cleared on this phone, what is left alone and what may be kept. It then asks you to prove it is you — not with the Parent PIN, but with your Parent account password. If a step does not complete, the app tells you what was and was not removed, and you can run the deletion again.

By email: write to contact@gulino.app from the email address the account uses, with the subject Delete my account. We confirm it is you before we do anything, and we aim to complete the request within 30 days.

Before you ask us to delete the account this way, exit Child Mode on every phone that uses it (Parent Mode → Exit Child Mode), because deleting the account does not change those phones: a phone left in Child Mode keeps working with its Parent PIN, but a forgotten PIN can no longer be reset by email. Such a phone is never locked for good — it can always be returned to normal by removing Gulino or clearing its app data in the phone's Settings (how). Removing Gulino from a phone that way clears the setup on that phone only; it does not delete your account.

You do not need an active subscription to delete your account, and a problem with a subscription or a payment never blocks deletion.

If you have a Gulino subscription

Your Gulino Parent account and your Google Play subscription are separate. Deleting the Gulino account does not cancel the subscription, does not stop Google Play from renewing and charging it, and does not refund it. If you no longer want the subscription:

  1. Cancel it in Google Play first. In the Google Play app, open Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Gulino → Cancel subscription; or go to play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions signed in to the Google account you subscribed with; or, in Gulino, open Parent Mode → Account & Security → Gulino plan → View plan → Manage subscription.
  2. Then delete your Gulino account as described above.

When the app knows about a subscription, it reminds you of this on the deletion screen and offers Manage subscription before you confirm. Cancelling stops future renewals; Google Play does not charge you again.

Google keeps its own records of the purchase under Google's policies. Refunds of Google Play purchases follow Google Play's refund policies, and your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected. While the Gulino account it was bought with exists, a subscription works only for that account. If you delete that account and keep the subscription, you can link it to a new Gulino account: sign in with the new Parent account on a phone where Google Play uses the Google account you subscribed with, and choose Restore purchase (in Parent Mode → Account & Security → Gulino plan → View plan, or at the plan step during setup). Whether a Google account can have a free trial again is decided by Google Play; deleting and re-creating a Gulino account does not change it.

What is deleted from our servers

What we hold on our servers is your Parent account, the technical association between it and this phone's setup, and the subscription information linked to your account. In-app deletion removes it:

So that a subscription you keep can later be linked to a new Gulino account, our servers keep one thing after that: a note that the account was deleted, filed under a one-way code made from the account's identifier, with the date of deletion. It holds no email address, name or purchase identifiers, and nothing about your child.

If a step does not complete, the app stops without deleting the account and tells you, so that you can run the deletion again.

What is cleared on the phone

The app then clears its own storage on the phone you are using:

Gulino then returns to its first-run state, exactly as after a fresh install. The next parent who sets it up is asked to accept the Terms and the Privacy Notice again.

What is left alone

Deletion touches only what Gulino created. It does not touch:

What we may have to keep

Deleting your account permanently removes your Gulino Parent account and Gulino-controlled active child/device data associated with it. We may retain limited information where required by law, such as accounting records relating to a purchase, or where necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. Such information is restricted to those purposes and is not used as an active Gulino account.

Plainly, as things stand:

How long it takes

In-app deletion completes while you wait, and the app tells you the result. For an email request we aim to complete a verified deletion within 30 days, and normally much sooner. We will confirm when it is done. If we cannot complete it, we will tell you why.
